History of Corridor 5

 

The Second District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is composed of five states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. The states are broken down into 7 Corridors. The southern portion of New York State is known as Corridor 5 and it consists of 18 chapters: Alpha Upsilon, Beta Alpha Alpha, Chi Rho, Epsilon, Iota Xi, Kappa Omicron, Nu Omicron, Nu Tau, Omicron, Omicron Iota, Phi Nu, Psi Lambda Lambda, Sigma Beta Beta, Upsilon Mu, Upsilon Tau, Xi Lambda Lambda, Xi Phi and Zeta Psi.

The mission of the Corridor 5 Representative is to aid and promote the positive growth and development of the chapters and members of the chapters within Corridor 5.

The role of the Corridor Representative is to help in the mediation and resolution of any problems or situations that occur with or between chapters within Corridor 5. The Corridor is responsible for following and executing the directives of the District Representative and to represent the District Representative when called upon to do so.

 
  Kevin Woodhouse
Xi Phi Chapter
Served: 2007 - Present
Served: 2005 - 2006

Under Bro. Woodhouse the following was accomplished:
* Headed Corridor 5 Delegation to four District Conferences
and Three Conclaves
* Assisted with the establishment of Psi Lamba Lamba chapter
* Organized Talent Hunt bus to Rochester and Philadelphia for District Conference.
* Established the current Corridor 5 Website with Bro. T. Edward McBride, Jr.
* Established alternating Corridor 5 Cookout sites in Westchester
and Nassau Counties giving greater exposure for brothers to meet each other.
* Inducted the largest number of neophytes under a unified chapter program which has run for 5 years. This allowed the neophytes to meet and know each other as well, as the prophytes, from other chapters.
* Established the Corridor 5 MSP Committee.
* Established the Corridor 5 Golf Tour 2011 Committee
* Awarded Corridor Representative of the Year at the 63rd Second District Conference in Cherry Hill, NJ on April 30, 2011.

  Daniel Boddie
Omega Chapter
Under Bro. Boddie the following was accomplished:
* Bro. Boddie was the first corridor representative of what is now Corridor 5. * He was appointed by the then District Leader, the 28th Grand Basileus James R. Avery.
* Bro. Boddie later went on to serve as the Second District Counselor for 10 years.
 
  Rudy Powell
Omega Chapter
Served: 1960 - 1990
Under Bro. Powell the following was accomplished:
* Bro. Powell was appointed as the 2nd District Corridor 5 Representative. This was a position he would hold for nearly 30 years.
* In his role as a Corridor Representative he oversaw the activities and administrative duties for the fourteen local chapters in New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Albany.
* He was later appointed Corridor Five Representative Emeritus.
 
  Greg Burnett
Kappa Omicron
Chapter
Served: 1990 - 1998
Under Bro. Burnett the following was accomplished:
* Served as Corridor 5 Representative under five District Representatives: Bros. George McKinney, David Wharton, Sr., Calvin Zellars, Mike Freeman, and Lee Bernard. This covered the timeframe from May 1990 to May 1998, May 2000 to May 2001.
* Established a waiver of territorial jurisdiction for NY City at IHQ which allowed any candidate residing in NY City to be read into any Chapter with the NY City territorial area.
* Organized and established "Metro Omega" amongst the NY City Chapters in order to coordinate Omegas efforts and strengthen our presence in NY City.
* Implemented the annual Brothers only "Metro Omega Founders Day Program" at Kingsborough Community College.
* Implemented the annual "Metro Omega Achievers Award Program" at NY City Hall Council Chambers.
* Established the current Corridor 5 Memorial Service rotation amongst Westchester, Long Island , and NY City Chapters.
* Established the Corridor 5 Regional Intake Team.
* Coordinated the reactivation of Upsilon Tau in Poughkeepsie , NY.
* Coordinated the reactivation of Upsilon Mu at SUNY Old Westbury.
* Formally presented the request to the Second District to make Bro. Rudy Powell Corridor 5 Representative Emeritus.
 
  James Edmonds
Epsilon Chapter
Served: 1998 - 2000
Served: 2006 - 2007

Under Bro. Edmonds the following was accomplished:
* Lead the Corridor efforts in hosting the Y2K Shirtsleeve Conference in Queens, NY. This was the first time the Corridor hosted the Shirtsleeve Conference.
 
  Thomas Wallace
Kappa Omicron Chapter
Served: 2001 - 2004
Under Bro. Wallace the following was accomplished:
* Served as Corridor Representative for 3 and half years.
* Started the Corridor 5 first Website in 2001.
* Implemented the Current Corridor 5 Annual picnic in 2000.
* Assisted the DR with the reactivation of the Zeta Psi chapter.
* Assisted with the establishment of Xi Lambda Lambda chapter (Read in the first officers.)
* Trained the entire Corridor on the first MSP program for three year period. 72 new brothers were initiated under watch into the fraternity.
 
  Clyde Coles
Epsilon
Chapter
Served: 2004 - 2005
Under Bro. Coles the following was accomplished:
* Maintained programs and intiatives that would continue to move the corridor in a positive direction.
