History of Beta Alpha Alpha

Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter was founded on September 18, 1978 in White Plains , New York . The Chapter consists of college educated and professional men from the Westchester and Rockland county areas who are dedicated to assisting college bound African-Americans through scholarship, social action and community involvement programs.

The chapter operates several programs in accordance with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's national initiatives as well as some of its own creation. These include: an annual Essay Contest, a Mentorship Experience and an annual local Talent Hunt Program where area high school students can demonstrate their artistic capabilities. The chapter also operates the not-for-profit Beta Alpha Alpha Foundation, Inc which annually awards $10,000 in scholarships to deserving young students attending colleges and universities throughout the United States .
During the Spring and Summer of 1978 five Brothers rich in the history and spirit of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity felt the calling to create a new chapter of their illustrious fraternity.

They envisioned a chapter that would be centrally located in the City of White Plains, NY -- the geographic and governmental center of Westchester County . The chapter would be established as a lifetime membership chapter -- a newly creating tier of commitment within the fraternity. A lifetime member would demonstrate the pinnacle of commitment and dedication to the fraternity; pledging his life to being an active member of Omega, exhibiting her ideals and principles in his all aspects of his life. A lifetime membership chapter would radiate a degree of passion, experience and vision that would be unique in the fraternity.

During these months these five Brothers gained the support of an additional four Brothers and all dedicated themselves to establishing a lifetime membership chapter the vision of which had grown to include a commitment to reaching across the Hudson River to represent Rockland County to the west. From their labor Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter earned its charter on September 18, 1978.

Since its beginning in 1978 Beta Alpha Alpha's members and programs have grown. Over the past twenty years it has awarded scholarships to over 50 promising college-bound students, brought over 40 men of the highest ideals and strongest character into the folds of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and has established itself as an instrumental organization in the community service of Westchester and Rockland Counties.

Beta Alpha Alpha's successes have been numerous and far-reaching. Its future represents continued opportunities to creatively address the needs of the African American community and positively impact upon the lives of those who its serves.
